Review: Secrets of a Professional Dog Trainer

151 pages, by Adam Katz

Secrets of a Professional Dog Trainer

Adam Katz, the author of this book, also runs DogProblems.com. Secrets of a Professional Dog Trainer was Katz’s way of putting together everything he had learned, to create a single source of solutions for all the most common dog training questions.

The combination of the book, and the access to DogProblems.com membership resources, work hand-in-hand very well. I’ve relied on all the parts of the package from time to time since picking up my own copy of Secrets of a Professional Dog Trainer.

If you follow the advice in this package, your dog’s behavior will be far better than average – he’ll be the smartest dog on the block. Adam Katz’s methods are that effective.

About Secrets of a Professional Dog Trainer

Mr. Katz has it set up so you can buy the book itself, or pay a few more dollars and get a huge benefit package. The main benefit of the “Secrets of a Professional Dog Trainer” Premium Package is direct email access to the author for consultations, but the other extras are worth more than the whole package price.

“Secrets of a Professional Dog Trainer,” the book itself, is a 151 page ebook. It combines the best advice and answers, to the biggest list of dog behavior questions and problems, I’ve ever seen. It’s more information than you can take in with a single cover-to-cover read. You will learn tons every time you read, or re-read, any chapter of this book.

Katz’s writing is blunt and firm, but his methods deserve the confidence. Do as he says, and you’ll have the best-trained dog a family could want.

Here’s a small sample of the dog training issues that Secrets of a Professional Dog Trainer exposes in detail:

  • First and foremost on almost every page of this book, Katz demonstrates how dogs learn, which is in a reward-based, repetition-based way.
  • How to earn the trust and respect that puts you in the alpha position with your dog or puppy.
  • How to use positive rewards, trust, and respect to train your dog in ways that work along with his natural pack-obedience instincts.
  • Many details about the right habits and mind-sets for the actual act of dog training.
  • How to communicate with dogs on a “dog whisperer” level.

Details on the bonus material that comes with Secrets of a Professional Dog Trainer

All you have to do is read and think about what Katz has written, and then practice it with your dogs. Secrets of a Professional Dog Trainer will help you teach your dogs new commands and games, stop behavior problems, and stimulate a healthy, satisfying lifestyle in your dog. Even these advanced dog training topics are taught completely:

  • Using hand signals or voice control for all your obedience commands.
  • How to correct your dog in a way that motivates him.
  • Reversing and removing separation anxiety.
  • Faster potty training methods.

The book’s page count cannot begin to describe how much knowledge you’ll get from reading it.

Secrets of a Professional Dog Trainer deals, in detail, with all the basic obedience commands, all the most common dog problems, all the steps of choosing and raising a dog, and more. He also gives opinions on several present-day dog ownership questions.

I’d be tempted to say it deals with hundreds of topics, but that might be a slight overstatement.

A free, on-call expert – I loved this extra.

One Month Free at DogProblems.com (Bonus Membership)

The membership-only material on the author’s website contains a lot more information than the book. It’s a very large library of dog training expertise, much of it available in video, audio, and text – all three. Aside from that, you also get a large, active web-based community and forum where you can trade Q’s and A’s with other DogProblems.com users. Web membership costs $14.95 per month if you choose to continue after the trial. I couldn’t even begin listing all the content on this website, but put it this way: I’ve been paying for my membership for the past two years – I think it’s worth it.

Conclusions on Secrets of a Professional Dog Trainer

Conclusions about the Secrets of a Professional Dog Trainer package

Although it’s useful for anyone from a first time dog owner, to a professional dog trainer refreshing his skills, one thing’s for sure – this ain’t a dummies book.

Katz packs an expert perspective on dog behavior, reams of specific tips for specific situations, and a few insightful opinions into a dense 151 pages. It’s meant to be read, thought about, and practiced, over and over.

I immediately recommend the whole program to any responsible, thinking dog owner who wants to be ready for everything. You’ll never run out of material, and if your specific dog training situation isn’t covered, just email Adam Katz. He knows everything.

The only warning I should mention is that Adam Katz uses pinch and prong collars, and he recommends them in his material. I don’t use them myself, although I admit that if a severe dog problem ever arose in my own pack at home, I would consider it. If you’re out-and-out offended by a dog trainer who would ever use a choke chain for anything – pass up Secrets of a Professional Dog Trainer. That’s the only reason I can imagine this book being a turn-off for anyone.

If you buy this book and follow its advice, I predict you’ll have the best-trained dog you can ask for, no matter what your dog is like now.
